From the courtyard take a short stroll to the viewing platform where you can admire panoramic views of Windermere through coloured panels the way Victorian way. Take in views to both the north and south of Lake Windermere. Listen out for the Aeolian wind harp on a blustery day and learn about the building’s colourful history.

A beauty spot that must not be missed, yet is not entirely typical of the local landscape, for the tarn is partly artificial, being three tarns joined together in the 19th Century and most of the trees surrounding it are conifers. The attraction is its sheer beauty, surrounded by thick woodland, and views towards Wetherlam, the Helvellyn range and the Langdale Pikes.

Journey from Dalegarth, past seven request stops with a gradient of 1:40 at times, through the hills, across the estuary to your final destination of Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Lake District National Park.
-
Muncaster Castle
1 hour 30 min
Learn about the historical importance of Muncaster Castle, a privately owned castle overlooking the River Esk, about a mile east of the west-coastal town of Ravenglass.
